TRIDEX

Plovdiv, in central Bulgaria, is older then both Athens and Rome and is one of the oldest cities in Europe. It was elected as the European Capital of Culture in 2019 alongside Matera, in Italy.

What few people know here: It’s the most important industrial location in the country after the capital, Sofia. Various companies active in the food and drink sector, consumer goods sector, non-ferrous metals sector and textiles are based in the town and surrounding areas.

One factor was of major importance for the Heikaus brothers: The Plovdiv region was a major player in the plastics industry even back in the late 1990s. Back in those days, this sector covered areas in which Germany and other industrial European countries had barely started. Film that has already been used by customers is taken back for recycling.

For visionaries such as Gerd and Lothar Heikaus, this was exactly the right location to establish and expand a factory. They acquired an existing business and, with a great deal of passion and courageous investment, developed it into a modern sister company. Under the company name “TRIDEX Ltd.”, the factory now primarily extrudes recycled films and processes them into bags, sacks, and films.

The company employs around 90 people, who, like their German colleagues, receive annual training to keep them up to date with the latest developments.
